SEMINAR SCHEDULE
Day 1: The Ancient Maya Calendar and Astronomy
In-depth instruction about how the Maya calendar works, including an honest discussion concerning what we still don't understand about its ancient origins. The second half of Day 1 will discuss what elements of the Maya ancient calendar are based on astronomy and how the Maya used it as a tool to further understand the movements of the night sky.
Day 2: The 2012 Craze and Modern Maya Beliefs
The morning of Day 2 will be dedicated to the topic of 2012 - the various theories coming out of the Western world, the evidence from ancient Maya hieroglyohic texts, and the notion that other ancient cultures support an "end date" of 2012. Day 2 will end with a explanation of how millions of modern Maya people of the Guatemalan highlands view their ancient calendar and why they consult Maya "Day Keeper" priests to undertsand the meaning and purpose of their lives on earth.
