Ancient Maya Mathematics and Astronomy in the Ruins of Yucatan - Chichen Itza, Mayapan, Dzibilchaltun and Uxmal
A travel course for the students of Professors Curt Vander Vere and Rob Cooley at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Led by Archaeoastronomer and Epigrapher Dr. Michael Grofe

This seven day tour and lecture series will investigate Maya ruins from both historical and scientific standpoints. The first two days in and around Merida will give students the chance to see the archaeological treasures housed in the Yucatan's Museum of Anthropology and the ruins of the longest continually occupied city in the Maya world, Dzibilchaltun. Day trips will be filled with exciting tours of beautiful ruins and visits to modern Maya communities. New Years Eve and day will be spent in Merida, where they have a beautiful fireworks display in the main plaza at midnight. Lectures on Maya history, archaeoastronomy, calendars, hieroglyphs and architecture will be presented during the evenings.
